Mr. Marcel Ciolacu is the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania. A Law graduate, Mr. Ciolacu followed a Master program in public administration at the National School for Political Science and Administration, and several post graduate courses in national security, economy and administration. In 2012,
Mr. Ciolacu won a mandate as member of the Chamber of Deputies. In the new capacity, he chaired the Special Parliamentary Committee on drafting the Code on Administration and he was a member of the Committees on ITC and on Public Administration.

At the same time, from 2014 until 2016, he was member of the Standing Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies.
Re-elected as member of Parliament in 2016, Mr. Ciolacu was also appointed Deputy Prime Minister in June 2017, remaining in office until January 2018. From May 2019 until December 2020. At political level, Mr. Ciolacu
is a member of the Social Democrat Party since 1990. In almost 30 years of membership, he held different positions with increasing levels of responsibility within the party, until becoming ad interim President in December
2019 and being elected, in August 2020, as full President of the Social Democratic Party.
